Information We Collect
Website Analytics
We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data about how visitors interact with our website. This may include:
- Pages visited and time spent on pages
- Referring website or source
- Browser type and device information
- General geographic location (country/city level)
Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this information. The data is aggregated and does not personally identify you.
Chrome Extension
The ThemeSniffer Chrome extension operates locally in your browser. When you use the extension to detect themes and plugins on a website, the extension:
- Analyzes the source code of the web page you are currently viewing
- Does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data
- Does not track your browsing history
- Does not require you to create an account
Website Analysis Tools, API and MCP Server
Our analysis tools (on our website, through our public API at themesniffer.com/api, and through our MCP server at themesniffer.com/api/mcp, which AI assistants such as Claude can connect to) analyze a website address you give us. When you run an analysis:
- We receive the website address you submitted, and our servers fetch that public page and its public stylesheets from the target site to analyze them
- We receive your IP address and the request's User-Agent, as any web server does. We use your IP address only to apply per-minute rate limits; the counter is kept in memory and discarded after about a minute
- A successful result may be cached for up to five minutes so that repeating the same request does not re-fetch the target site
- We do not require an account or API key, and we do not store the addresses you analyze or link them to you
- When you use the MCP server through an AI assistant, we receive only the tool call (the website address to analyze). We do not receive your conversation, and the assistant's own provider handles that under its own privacy policy
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes these requests on our behalf and may keep standard request logs under its own policies.
Email for the Full Tech Stack Report
The WordPress Tech Stack Report on our website offers to unlock the full report when you enter your email address. If you choose to do this, we may store:
- Your email address
- The website address you analyzed and which tool you used
- The time of the request, your IP address, your browser's User-Agent, and the page that referred you
We use this information to send you the report and to prevent abuse. We keep it until you ask us to delete it. You can ask us to delete it, or stop emailing you, at any time using the contact details below. Entering your email is optional; the rest of our tools work without it.
How We Use Information
The anonymous analytics data we collect is used solely to:
- Understand how visitors use our website
- Improve our website content and user experience
- Monitor website performance and identify technical issues
Request data from the analysis tools, API and MCP server is used only to run the analysis you asked for and to protect the service from abuse. Email addresses are used as described above. We do not sell your information.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies through Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.
